Wilbert Awdry in the 1940s, Thomas gained fame through Allcroft’s groundbreaking 1984 adaptation, ‘Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends,’ which she financed through her own home mortgage. In addition to her work on Thomas, Allcroft developed ‘Mr. Conductor’s Thomas Tales’ in 1996 and produced the animated series ‘Magic Adventures of Mumfie’ in 1994, showcasing her creative versatility. Born on December 14, 1943, in West Sussex, she began her career at BBC at 19.

Her discovery of Thomas came during a documentary about British steam trains in 1979, leading to a years-long effort to bring him to screens. In 2002, she sold her production company to Hit Entertainment, which was acquired by Mattel in 2012.

Allcroft also penned and produced the 2000 feature film ‘Thomas and the Magic Railroad.’ She is survived by her son and grandchildren, who carry forth her profound legacy.
