A groundbreaking documentary titled “Kirbyvision” is in the works, celebrating the legendary comic book artist Jack Kirby. Acclaimed filmmaker Ricki Stern, known for her thought-provoking documentaries, will direct this feature. Emmy-winning producers Dan Braun and Josh Braun from Submarine Entertainment will join forces with Mike Cecchini, Ron Fogelman, and Chris Longo to produce this captivating project.

Kirby co-created Captain America with Joe Simon in 1941, famously illustrating the superhero’s punch on Adolf Hitler’s cover, a poignant history lesson that predates the U.S. involvement in World War II. His nearly sixty-year legacy boasts iconic Marvel characters such as the Avengers, Hulk, Iron Man, and the X-Men, many brought to life with Stan Lee. Additionally, at DC Comics, he crafted the sweeping “Fourth World” saga.

Ricki Stern remarked, “Jack was not only one of the great comic book artists of all time, but a true visionary genius.” She emphasized the importance of recognizing Kirby’s impact as a storyteller of the 20th century. Dan Braun expressed similar enthusiasm, asserting that if there were a pop culture Mount Rushmore, Kirby would be the first figure carved.

The documentary benefits from the cooperation of the Jack Kirby Estate, offering access to rare personal documents and home movies that have remained hidden from public view. Lisa Kirby, Jack’s daughter, shared her excitement about having a passionate and knowledgeable team exploring her father’s legacy, stating, “The legacy of Jack Kirby is in good hands.”

“Kirbyvision” will narrate Kirby’s journey from humble beginnings during the Great Depression to his service in World War II, followed by his diverse storytelling career. The production team explained, “Kirby’s tales are as universal and human as they are mythic and cosmic in their scope.”

Cecchini, also an executive producer for another project, is a trustee at the Jack Kirby Museum. Fogelman co-founded the London Action Festival, and Longo is with Den of Geek. Randolph Hoppe, from the Jack Kirby Museum, commented on the project’s timely relevance, eager to share Kirby’s full story with future generations.

This documentary promises to unveil the depth of Jack Kirby’s imagination and artistry, igniting inspiration for those who will follow in his creative footsteps.

“Kirbyvision” is set to be a definitive tribute to Jack Kirby, showcasing his monumental contributions to the comic world and beyond. With collaborations from his estate and an insightful production team, this documentary aims to inspire new generations by illuminating Kirby’s incredible life story and his boundless creativity.
